Clad To Command – Why It’s Important To Dress Like A Boss

December 19, 2015 Comments are off

Dressed to impress might be the motto for most people when figuring out what to wear in the morning, but clad to command is what most professionals, leaders, and executives hold on to and aim to emulate each time they put on those suits. While most of us know that the way a person dresses doesn’t necessarily dictate their skills and abilities, experts and researchers have found that a lot of companies and employers assign a great amount of importance in the way their applicants appear.

Clad To Command – Why It’s Important To Dress Like A Boss

Why It’s Important to Dress Like a Boss

Maintaining a job is no laughing matter. When hours start to grow long, days become tedious, and work load piles up, it might be easy to just slap on whatever you want to wear and walk out the door to elbow your way through the morning rush hour. But those who fail to dress appropriately for the work place might find themselves starting to look out of place very soon. So, what? you might ask. While it doesn’t seem like such a big deal right now, you’ll find that future opportunities like promotions and such will be granted to those who seem to be doing better than you, and oftentimes the way you look says a lot about how well you’re able to manage your time.

When it comes to the professional realm, there is a certain dress code to be observed so that you can include yourself with the rest of the population. Studies have found that physical appearance plays a large role in the selection of potential employees. The more professional a person looks, the bigger their chances of getting hired or promoted. This is because executives and companies correlate capability with outward appearances – if you can walk the walk, then you most probably can talk the talk.

What Dressing Like a Boss Says About You

Paying attention to the way the people in your workspace dress, and matching their particular style, lets your bosses know that you care about what your brand is all about. It’s important to observe and emulate what the others around you are wearing, and if at all possible, take it up a notch. This will make you stand out in the crowd, making it easier for your boss to identify you as different. Dressing like your boss, on the other hand, might also reap a few benefits as well. According to an article recently published by the Wall Street Journal, dressing like the CEO makes you seem more ambitious – in a good way. It tells people that you know what you want to achieve and you’ve already looked ahead to your not so distant career future.

Experts have said that dressing to impress is one of the most vital components of executive presence. The way you’re dressed is the first thing people will see, and that can make or break any opportunities you might have had going for you. That being said, clad to command is definitely a mantra we all should cling on to if we want to reap those office space rewards.
